from Pharoah to Judges to Presidents...

Judges 2:
7 So the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD which He had done for Israel.

8 Now Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died when he was one hundred and ten years old.
9 And they buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Heres, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash.

10 When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.

Psalm 48:
12 Walk about Zion,
And go all around her.
Count her towers;

13 Mark well her bulwarks;
Consider her palaces;
That you may tell it to the generation following.

14 For this is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will be our guide
Even to death.

This cycle of forgetfulness seems to be a part of the human condition, our Fall-damaged minds are subject to forgetfulness, as individuals, as we age and also collectively as cultures.

Another Biblical example comes in Exodus.

Exodus 1:
8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.
9 And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we;
10 come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.”
11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens.

This very same cycle of forgetfulness has overtaken our own country. Listening to lectures from the Great Courses of The Teaching Company on American History, American Political Cycles and other courses about our country, I realize with a heavy heart that "there arose a new president over the United States, who does not know Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, the Adamses, Hamilton, Madison or the other founding fathers, nor the founding documents..."

We have rain here today

so I have been spending some time in Bible study & thinking about a post ('bout time, right?!). One of the problems with the side bar, is that after you have added links to it in various categories it gets very long. So after reading a post one often does not scroll down to see what is on the side bar or if there are any new links added. Since I have added two new ones recently, I am going to put those links in this post in order to introduce you to them.

I also have a post in my mind on some of the beginning thoughts in Judges, soon I hope...
