millions...billions...tril...?!

Providentially, my next door neighbor has noticed a woodpecker who has claimed a dead branch of her maple tree for his/her own!! He has been rata tat tatting away for several days and has made a hole about 3 inches in diameter so far. Hunting for insects? Chipping out a nest??

These are very unusual birds, though they are found plentifully around the globe. They have an "industrial strength" skull, the heaviest/strongest in relation to their body of any animal. Their brain is super cushioned with cartilege (where do you think they got the idea for sports helmets??). Most of them have "industrial strength" beaks as well. They close their eyes between EVERY peck at the tree trunk - not to avoid getting wood bits in their eyes - but to keep their eyes from being popped out at each peck, by the force of the blow!! So they need to refocus after every peck. Amazing! They have two claws that face to the front and two that face to the back - they can climb up, down, upsidedown, sideways, you name it. Their tails are stiff and spread out when they are pecking away so their claws and tail form a strong tripod to support the bird. Neat!

Most woodpecker tongues are barbed, stab the insect in the hole, have a special glue at the end of the long tongue to stick to the insect. After the woodpecker has slurped the insect into his mouth, another special substance - a solvent - loosens the insect, so the bird can swallow the insect and not his tongue!!!

Finally, there is the European Green woodpecker and his amazing tongue!

Could even trillions of years make the reality of the woodpecker possible??

I have a wonderful video of my neighbor's woodpecker, but have been unable to upload for this post. Will keep working at it and hopefully post it later! Got the link for it, hope it works!

Because of all the rain this spring, summer, fall, tonight again! the leaves are just amazing colors!! In this picture you can see the bright red of a fire bush; just to the right, the copper color of what I call the "penny" tree (the leaves are a round shape & look like copper pennies in the fall); and the brilliant yellow of the maple tree. The Lord is so good to give us such a dazzling delight to the eyes as we head into the days of winter.

future punishment; indictment

Romans 1
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image of corruptible man -- and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

2009 is the year of Charles Darwin. Since his On the Origin of Species was published in 1859, men have been suppressing the truth of God in unrighteousness. Evolution is not proven fact, it is theory. It is not even scientific, as it is not possible to reproduce it in the laboratory, as scientific hypotheses are supposed to be. For a wonderful dose of Truth, meet Jobe Martin.

Explain, please.....

I am, unapologetically, a creationist and am constantly amazed at the (intentional?) references to creation in Scripture. Today while reading in Proverbs 6 I was again struck by the foolish arguments posed by those who think we all evolved to our present state of being.
Let me share: "Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer or ruler, she prepares her food in summer, and gathers her sustenance in harvest." Pr. 6:6-8. Okay, now if our busy little ant evolved over many years, how did she "know" how to gather, when to gather and that she would even have to gather?!? As Dr. Jobe Martin so aptly explains in "Incredible Animals that Defy Evolution", animals didn't get a second chance to learn the lessons of survival. They had to come fully complete or in another word, created, to live in this world and that includes the ant. If she evolved over hundreds or thousands of years, how did she stay alive those first few winters?? And with no ruler or queen ant, how did she even learn to gather??
I agree with Dr. Jobe Martin and find it easier to believe the Biblical account that God created each individual creature to be exactly what it is -- in the above instance, a very knowledgable, busy, industrious CREATED ant.

What is a day?

This selection is taken from Creation Moments:

"The Days in Genesis

Genesis 1:5

“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Silently a huge, powerful form slides through the deep, cold, dark depths of the sea. The men aboard the nuclear submarine have seen neither sun nor daylight for months, yet each one knows what day it is. The men know what day and what time it is even without seeing daylight, because the sun’s movement – like a clock – only measures time; it doesn’t create it.

God doesn’t need the sun to measure time either. When He tells us in Genesis 1 that He created everything in six days and rested on the seventh, we know these are days like ours, even though the sun was not created until the fourth day. Some people wonder whether the days of Genesis 1 could be figurative days.

Well, the best interpreter of Scripture is Scripture itself. What does it say?The word translated “day” in Genesis 1 is the Hebrew word yom. Whenever that word is used anywhere else in the Old Testament with a number – like 10 yoms – it always means a 24 hour day. And whenever yom is used anywhere else in the Old Testament with the phrase “evening and morning,” it always means a 24 hour day.Going back to Genesis 1, we see that the Holy Spirit has made sure that both of these rules are in force to assure us that the Genesis days are like ours!

Prayer: I thank You, Lord, that Your Word is clear and true. Use it to correct my understanding as well as my life and do not allow my own pride to make me deaf or blind to Your Word. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Old or Young?
